Our Story

“…a serendipitous meet-cute.”

Chris and Chandler’s story began in the fall of 2019. Chris was living in Ashburn with his mom saving up to buy a house and Chandler was living with four friends in Arlington.

One Tuesday night in late October, some mutual friends decided to get together in Arlington at a bar called Bracket Room. Well known for its Tuesday Night Trivia, Sunday Brunch, and delicious chicken sandwiches, Bracket Room was the perfect place for a friendly get-together, or in this case, a serendipitous meet-cute.

On October 22, casual invites were sent out for some spur-of-the-moment trivia, putting these two in the same room for the first time. He arrived with an impressive array of movie and sports knowledge and she arrived with her work laptop in hand and glasses, even though she almost never wore glasses.

Although on the same trivia team, Chris and Chandler spent the evening playing an entirely different game known as, “No, you’re wrong". There is no winner in this game, only constant flirting disguised as bickering.

At the time, Chris and Chandler were both newly single and not looking for a relationship, so the two became friends and saw each other on-and-off at group events over the months that followed.

“…learning that "just friends" was not going to cut it.”

The following Spring, Chandler and her roommates had some friends over for drinks and outdoor games. Not only was Chris in attendance, but he brought with him his very adorable, seven-month-old puppy, Leia. Chris will say she was his wing-woman that night, but Chandler will say she was his bait.

After a few hours (and a few cocktails), Chandler left the group to seek out the puppy that was incidentally lounging in her living room. Shortly after, so did Chris. The two spent the rest of the evening away from the group, getting to know each other better, and learning that "just friends" was not going to cut it.

A month later, the two went on their first official date during the height of the pandemic. Chandler was living with her parents in Chesterfield, so Chris drove two hours south to visit her.

A majority of businesses had shut down in the area allowing for very few traditional first date options. Thankfully, some places were still offering food to-go. They grabbed some breakfast sandwiches at Nate's Bagels and went on what turned into a four mile walk around downtown Richmond with Leia by their side.
